Cookie & Storage Policy

Effective: July 8, 2026 · Last updated: August 13, 2026

Cookies

This site uses zero cookies. No HTTP cookies are set, read, or transmitted at any point during your visit. No session cookies, no tracking cookies, no third-party cookies.

What we use instead

The Dots chat widget uses your browser's localStorage. localStorage is different from cookies: it stays in your browser, is not sent automatically with HTTP requests, and is not accessible across domains. It holds no name, email, or other identifying detail.

What is stored

The Dots widget writes these keys to your browser's localStorage:

Key Purpose Lifetime
varjosoft.visitor_id A random ID generated in your browser, so a return visit can continue a conversation. Not linked to your identity. Until cleared
varjosoft.attention_total_sec How long you have spent reading, so the widget knows when it is ready. Until cleared
varjosoft.attention_last_update_ms Timestamp of the last reading-time update, used to measure attention accurately. Until cleared
varjosoft.dots_ready Whether the widget has already become available on a previous page or visit. Until cleared

When data leaves your browser

The stored reading-time and timestamp stay in your browser. Data is sent to our server only when you ask the Dots widget a question. At that point we send the question, the visible text of the page (to ground the answer), your reading time, and your varjosoft.visitor_id; we store the question, the answer, the page URL, a one-way hash of your IP, and basic metrics. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Third-party storage

None. All fonts are self-hosted. No third-party scripts, pixels, trackers, or CDN resources are loaded in your browser.

One external party is involved, and only if you use Dots. Answering a question means running a language model, and we do not run our own: the question and the visible text of the page go to Nebius, our inference provider, on European infrastructure. Nothing else about your visit is sent to any third party. If you never ask Dots a question, nothing goes to an AI provider at all; your visit touches only our own server, which serves the pages and counts page loads without cookies.

How to clear stored data

Open your browser's developer tools (F12), go to the Application or Storage tab, find localStorage for this domain, and delete the entries listed above. Or clear all site data for varjosoft.com in your browser settings.

Changes

If we add any new storage mechanisms, this page will be updated with a new effective date.
